This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.
Monday 27th July – Friday 31st July 2020
•Joshua AnthonyHonan-Parr, 22, of Ocean View Road in Ventnor pleaded guilty to usnig threatening/abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. Magistrates gave a conditional discharge for 6 months and ordered Honan-Parr to pay £85 costs with a £22 surcharge.
• Mark Coffey, 50, of Tennison Road, Yaverland, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on the charge of common assault. He was handed a 6 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 with a £21 surcharge.
• Jennifer Ashley May-Cunningham, 33, c/o Robin Hood Street in Newport, pleaded guilty to common assault, theft from a shop to the value of £418.90 and theft from a shop to the value of £528.68. Magistrates made May-Cunningham subject to 20 days of rehabilitation and ordered her to pay compensation of £100.
• Samual Christopher Dunkling, 30, of Nodgham Lane in Carisbrooke, admitted using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke unlawful violence towards Police Constable Green. Dunkling was given a 6 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £21 surcharge.
• Lachen Connor Downs, 22, of Tennyson Road in Cowes, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug – cocaine and a Class B drug – cannabis. He was fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge. The drugs were forfeited.
• Tracey McHale, 57, of Blythe Way in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to drink driving – namely 94 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. She was disqualified from driving for 24 months, made subject to 20 rehabilitation days and ordered to complete 60 hours unpaid work, pay £85 costs and a £90 surcharge.
• Paul Anthony Surridge, 43, of Hamilton Road in Binstead, was disqualified from driving for 6 months and fined £660 for driving without insurance on 2 occasions. The charges were proved in his absence. He has also been ordered to pay £40 costs and a surcharge of £66.
• Nichol Teri Swainsbury, 20, of Downsview in Sandown, admitted theft from a shop – namely 3 Budweiser to the value of £3.96. She was fined £90 and ordered to pay costs of £85 with a surcharge of £33.98.
• Benjamin Charles G Buckle, 37, of Caws Avenue in Nettlestone, pleaded guilty to obstructing constable PS Winchester in the execution of his duty. Buckle was fined £120 and ordered to pay £40 costs with a surcharge of £34.
• Scott Edward Cooper, 31, of no fixed abode, changed his plea to guilty for assault by beating and criminal damage. He was jailed for 18 weeks, made subject to a restraining order and ordered to pay £100 compensation
• Alexandru Avadani, 42, of Clarence Road in East Cowes, was found guilty of 2 counts of sexual assault following a trial. He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 5 years, complete 200 hours unpaid work, pay £600 costs and a £85 surcharge.
• Matthew Dennis Newton, 36, of Ashey Road in Ryde, admitted 2 counts of assault by beating. Magistrates ordered Newton to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, and pay £85 court costs with a £95 surcharge.
• Stephanie Melissa Rutland, 51, of East Hill Road in Ryde, pleaded guilty to drink driving – namely 376 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine. She was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months and disqualified from driving for 40 months. Rutland must complete a drink impaired drivers programme and 16 rehabilitation days. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs with a £122 surcharge.
• Morgan Gough, 21, of Trelawny Way in Bembridge, admitted assault by beating and criminal damage. He was ordered to complete 20 rehabilitation days and 80 hours of unpaid work. Gough was also made subject to a restraining order and told to pay £550 compensation, £85 court costs with a £90 surcharge.
• Gemma West, 36, of Stower Place in Sandown and Sasha Bryan, 31 of Stower Place, Sandown indicated a guilty plea to several charges of theft from a shop to the total value of £1,020.78. West was made subject to a community order to complete 25 rehabilitation days and ordered to pay £383.93 compensation. Bryan was ordered to complete 10 rehabilitation days and pay compensation of £231.93.
• Dale Mark Robinson, 40, of Oaklyn Gardens, Shanklin, admitted drink driving – namely 119 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 milliitres of breath (3.4x the limit). Magistrates disqualified him from driving for 36 months and ordered him to complete 20 rehabilitation days with 150 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £85 court costs with a £95 surcharge.
• Valentim Tudose, 46, of St James’ Street in Newport, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and 2 charges of causing harassment, alarm or distress. He was given an electronic tag curfew for 4 months and ordered to pay £85 court costs with a £90 surcharge.
